Play The Humans on Snes Online
Guide a tribe of cavemen through puzzles, using tools and teamwork to navigate prehistoric landscapes and reach the exit in The Humans on SNES.
I picked up The Humans on the Super Nintendo back in 1993, a puzzle game developed by Imagitec Design. It was one of those titles that felt a bit different from the usual platformers and RPGs crowding the shelves at the time. The premise was simple: you're guiding a tribe of early humans through various stages of evolution, solving environmental puzzles to help them progress. It had a distinct look and feel, fitting right into that era of experimental SNES releases that weren't afraid to be a little unconventional.
You control a small group of cavemen, moving them screen by screen across prehistoric landscapes. The main goal is to get your tribe from the start of each level to the exit, which often involves figuring out how to use primitive tools, stack rocks to reach higher platforms, or avoid creatures like dinosaurs. Key mechanics include picking up and placing objects to create paths, using spears for defense or interaction, and coordinating your humans so no one gets left behind (ladders can collapse if you're not careful). The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the difficulty comes from the trial and error of figuring out the right sequence of actions. It feels clunky and chaotic at first, but there's a strange satisfaction when your plans finally come together and your tribe moves forward.
