Play The Lawnmower Man Online
You play as a scientist dodging lab experiments and mowing down enemies with upgradable guns, then suddenly get tossed into trippy 3D tunnel sections that feel like a fever dream. The controls haven’t aged well, but those weird virtual reality segments are oddly hypnotic.
The Lawnmower Man came out on the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Sales Curve Interactive. It was part of that wave of movie tie-ins that tried to capture the film's cyber-thriller vibe on a 16-bit console, a pretty common sight back then.
You control Dr. Lawrence Angelo, a scientist trying to stop his own creation, a super-intelligent virtual reality entity. The gameplay shifts between two distinct modes. You explore a top-down laboratory, shooting security systems and mutated creatures with a variety of weapons you can upgrade. Periodically, the perspective shifts completely to a first-person, polygonal maze where you navigate abstract, wireframe environments to destroy nodes. The difficulty spikes sharply in these 3D sections, which feel disorienting and demanding compared to the more straightforward action outside. It creates a strange, jarring rhythm to the entire experience.
