Game Overview

I first played The Need for Speed back in 1995 on MS-DOS, a game published by Electronic Arts. It came out during a time when 3D racing was still finding its feet, and this one stood out for its focus on real car handling and police chases. It wasn't just about going fast; it was about learning how each car behaved.

You control a selection of licensed sports cars, trying to win races or evade police in pursuit mode. The main goal is to earn first place or escape the cops, unlocking faster vehicles as you progress. Signature mechanics include managing your speed through tight corners, using a rear-view mirror to monitor police, and watching detailed crash replays when you wreck. The pacing is tense, especially with cops on your tail, and the difficulty feels fair but demanding. It captures the thrill of high-speed driving with a tangible sense of risk and reward.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
