Game Overview

Electronic Arts released The Need for Speed in 1995 as part of their MS-DOS Classic Games lineup. It arrived at a time when 3D polygonal racing was still finding its footing, and it demanded a powerful CPU to run smoothly, which made it a benchmark title for many PC setups of the era.

You control a selection of licensed sports cars, navigating winding courses against either a clock or AI opponents. The main objective is to finish first or set the best time while avoiding collisions and staying on the road. Signature mechanics include a rear-view mirror to monitor pursuing cars, a split-screen two-player versus mode, and the inclusion of detailed, real-world car handling and engine sounds. The pacing is fast and the physics demand careful throttle control, especially when taking sharp turns at high speed. It feels like a genuine test of concentration and precision driving.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
