Game Overview

I picked up Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Essentials for the PSP back in 2006, a time when having a full stealth experience on a handheld still felt pretty new. Ubisoft Montreal handled the development, and it was cool to see Sam Fisher's world squeezed onto that little screen, even if it came with some compromises. It wasn't the prettiest or smoothest game in the series, but for portable play, it did the job.

You control Sam Fisher, a seasoned NSA operative, working through a series of missions that flash back through his career. The main objective is almost always the same: get in, complete your goal, and get out without being detected. You spend a lot of time sticking to shadows, using your night and thermal vision goggles to spot enemies, and creating distractions to slip past patrols. The light and sound meter is crucial; you're constantly monitoring your visibility and noise level to avoid giving yourself away. It's a methodical, sometimes unforgiving game that punishes rushing. The satisfaction comes from perfectly executing a plan and moving through a hostile area completely unseen.
