Play Ultimate Spider-Man (I) Online
Swiping to swing feels odd at first, but soon you're dive-bombing from skyscrapers and yanking thugs off bikes with your webs—all crammed into that tiny DS screen. The cel-shaded New York still looks great when you're zipping between buildings.

Ultimate Spider-Man on the Nintendo DS came out in 2005, published by Activision. It was a time when handheld games were really stretching what they could do, and this one tried to bring a full comic book adventure to the small screen. Based on the comic of the same name, it stood out with its visual style, even on the limited hardware.
You play as both Spider-Man and Venom, switching between them to progress through the story. As Spider-Man, you swing through a scaled down New York, stopping crimes and fighting familiar villains. The touch screen is used for certain attacks and quick time events, which adds a tactile layer to the brawling. The game moves at a brisk pace, though some boss fights can feel a bit repetitive. Controlling Venom offers a heavier, more destructive alternative to Spider-Man's agility. It feels surprisingly fluid to web swing across the city, even with the constraints of the hardware.
