Play Ultimate Spider-Man (J) Online
Swinging between pixelated skyscrapers feels surprisingly smooth, especially when you nail those last-second touchscreen dodges mid-fight. The Japanese voice acting adds charm while you hunt down hidden collectibles in this compact Spidey sandbox.
Ultimate Spider-Man on the Nintendo DS came out in 2005, published by Activision. It was one of those early DS titles that made decent use of the dual screens, letting you swing through a scaled-down New York without too much fuss. The game arrived when handheld 3D was still finding its feet, and it managed to capture a bit of that comic book energy without overpromising.
You play as both Spider-Man and Venom, switching between them to brawl through streets, complete missions, and uncover the story. Spider-Man relies on quick combos and web-swinging, while Venom uses brutal strength and tendril attacks to overwhelm enemies. The touch screen handles special moves and dodges, which keeps things interactive during fights. The city is broken into smaller, connected areas you clear screen by screen, hunting for tokens and stopping random crimes. It moves at a steady pace, not too hard but not a breeze either. Controlling both heroes back to back gives the whole experience a nice rhythm.
