You pick your hunter—I usually go for Donovan because, let’s be honest, that sword-whip combo is ridiculous—and dive straight into gothic chaos. The sprites are gorgeous, all exaggerated animations and dramatic shadows, and the fights are fast enough to make your thumbs ache after a few rounds.

It’s not just button-mashing, though. Some of these vampires have tricks that’ll wreck you if you don’t time your dodges right. The first time I fought Demitri, his teleporting nonsense had me groaning at the screen. But when you finally nail a perfect combo and watch that health bar evaporate? Pure satisfaction.
