Game Overview

Vs. Hogan's Alley came out in arcades in 1984, developed by Nintendo R&D1. It was part of that wave of light gun games that pulled you in with simple, physical action, a step away from the joystick and button routines of the time.

You control a crosshair on screen, aiming a light gun at cardboard cutouts of gangsters that pop up from windows and alleys. Your goal is to shoot the criminals while sparing civilians and police officers. The game uses a three lane layout, with targets appearing from different depths, and you must quickly distinguish friend from foe based on their silhouettes and sometimes their movement. The pacing is relentless; targets appear and vanish in seconds, and mistakes are punished with loud audio warnings and score penalties. It feels like a test of both your reflexes and your judgment under pressure.
