Warlords II came out in 1993 for MS-DOS, developed by Strategic Studies Group. It was part of that wave of turn-based strategy games that really dug into the details, where you managed more than just armies on a map. It didn't have flashy graphics, but it had a solid, thoughtful design that fit right in with the PC gaming of that era.
You control a fantasy faction, building cities, recruiting armies, and exploring a map shrouded in fog of war. The main goal is to conquer all enemy strongholds and become the supreme warlord. Key mechanics include moving hero-led stacks of units across a hex-based map, engaging in tactical combat resolved on a separate screen, and using magical artifacts to turn the tide. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, with the AI posing a consistent and clever threat. It feels like a long, satisfying chess match set in a world of swords and sorcery.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
