Wheels Runner came out in 1992 as an arcade cabinet racer from Speedy Studios. It was part of that wave of early 90s games where developers were really pushing sprite scaling and pseudo-3D effects to make racing feel faster and more intense than the top-down or side-scrolling racers that came before.

You control a small, agile car from a behind-the-vehicle perspective, weaving through traffic on a constantly accelerating highway. The main goal is simply survival; you dodge orange cones, swerve around slower cars, and hit turbo pads scattered on the road to keep your speed manageable. The screen scrolls faster with each passing second, and the steering becomes twitchier, making every lane change a tense decision. It feels like you're always just a fraction of a second away from crashing, but pulling off a long run is incredibly satisfying.
