Game Overview

Remember those old Carmen Sandiego games where you chased thieves across the US? This Deluxe version for MS-DOS takes the original and gives it a serious glow-up—we're talking CD-ROM quality with smoother animations, better sound, and a slicker interface. You still play as a detective tracking Carmen's goons state by state, but now you've got this massive database of facts, photos, and even video clips to help you crack the case.

Here's how it works: The chief drops you a lead—some crook stole the Liberty Bell's clapper or something equally ridiculous—and you've got to follow the trail. You'll grill witnesses, check maps, and dig through state trivia to figure out where they're hiding. The best part? If you pick the right state, you actually see these cartoonish criminals scrambling around like they forgot their getaway car keys. Mess up, though, and locals just shrug at you. No hand-holding here—you really have to learn your state capitals and weird landmarks.

It's way more polished than the 1985 version, but don't mix it up with the 1990 "Enhanced" edition—this one's got its own vibe. The zoomable map alone makes it feel less like guesswork and more like actual detective work. Just don't be surprised when you accidentally memorize Nebraska's state bird by the third case.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
