Game Overview

Will Harvey's Music Construction Set came out in 1984 for MS-DOS, a time when home computers were just starting to get creative with software. It was one of those early programs that let you compose music without any real instruments, which felt pretty novel back then.

You don't control a character; you place notes on a staff, adjust instruments, and build songs measure by measure. The main goal is to create complete musical pieces, experimenting with melody, harmony, and rhythm. You can layer different tracks, change tempo on the fly, and play back your composition to hear how it sounds. The pacing is entirely up to you—there's no pressure, just pure tinkering. It feels like having a personal music lab right there on your computer screen.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
