Wizards & Warriors is one of those NES games that feels like a fever dream in the best way. You play as Kuros, this armored knight who just sort of... jumps really high? Like, way higher than you'd expect from a guy in full plate mail. The goal is simple—rescue kidnapped maidens and take down the wizard Malkil—but the levels are these weird, vertical obstacle courses full of floating platforms and enemies that pop out of nowhere.

The first time I played, I kept getting knocked off cliffs by bats (seriously, so many bats). But once you get the hang of the floaty jumps and find the hidden power-ups—like the dagger that lets you actually attack diagonally—it clicks. The music’s got that classic Rare charm too, all bouncy and heroic. Just don’t expect deep lore or anything; it’s pure 80s fantasy cheese with a surprising amount of platforming challenge.
