Game Overview
Wrath of the Demon is one of those late-80s/early-90s fantasy brawlers that somehow flew under the radar compared to stuff like Golden Axe. You play as this armored hero out to slay a demon king, swinging swords, riding horses, and generally causing chaos across moody, detailed pixel landscapes.
What really stands out is how fluid the combat feels—way smoother than you'd expect from 1991. The Amiga version in particular is gorgeous, with parallax scrolling that makes the dark forests and castles pop. David Whittaker's soundtrack? Absolute banger. Haunting synth melodies that stick with you.
It’s got that classic arcade-style difficulty too—enemies swarm you fast, and the horse-riding sections can be brutal until you get the timing down. But when you nail a perfect combo or barely dodge an attack, it’s stupidly satisfying. One of those games where you’ll die a lot but keep mashing ‘continue’ anyway.
Fun fact: Some critics back then actually preferred it over Shadow of the Beast 2, which says a lot. If you dig old-school action with a dark fantasy vibe, this one’s worth dusting off.
