Pulling off perfectly timed reversals feels amazing, and scripting your own wrestling soap opera in Story Designer is as ridiculous as it sounds. Custom wrestlers finally look like they belong in the ring, not like paper dolls.
Game Overview
WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2009, developed by Yuke's and published by THQ. It was one of the more fully featured wrestling games on the PSP, arriving late in the system's life when developers had a good handle on squeezing content onto the handheld. The game carried over a lot of what made the console versions popular, just scaled down for on-the-go play.
You control a WWE superstar, working through matches by grappling, striking, and building up momentum to hit signature moves and finishers. The main objective is to win matches across various modes, from single bouts to the extensive Road to WrestleMania story campaigns. Signature mechanics include the Struggle Submission System, where you fight over a rapidly moving meter to apply or escape holds, and the ability to store and instantly activate your finisher when the opportunity arises. The pacing is deliberate, favoring strategy over button mashing, and the AI can put up a decent fight on higher difficulties. It feels satisfying to outmaneuver an opponent and hear the crowd react to a well-executed sequence.
