WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 came out for the Nintendo DS in 2009, developed by Yuke's and published by THQ. It was one of the few wrestling games on the handheld, arriving when the DS was packed with RPGs and puzzle games. This title tried to bring the spectacle of WWE to a smaller screen, with all the limitations and quirks that entailed.
You control a custom or roster wrestler, aiming to win matches through pins, submissions, or knockouts. The touch screen is used for grappling and striking; you swipe or tap to execute moves, and sometimes use the buttons for navigation or quick actions. Matches can feel clunky but deliberate, with a pace that rewards timing over button mashing. It feels like a rough but earnest attempt to translate wrestling’s physicality onto the DS.
