WWF Royal Rumble for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System came out in 1993, developed by Sculptured Software. It was one of the wrestling games you'd rent on a Friday night, hoping it had more to offer than just the basic grappling you saw in other titles from that era on the SNES.
You control one of several WWF wrestlers, moving from a side view to try and throw every other competitor over the top rope. The main objective is to be the last one standing in the ring. Signature mechanics include timed button presses for grapples and strikes, building a special meter to perform a wrestler's unique finisher, and managing the constant threat of new opponents entering the match. The pacing is frantic, especially with multiple wrestlers on screen, and the difficulty comes from the chaos of everyone piling on you at once. It feels like a genuine scramble where one good move can turn the whole match around.
