WWF Royal Rumble came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, published by LJN. It was one of the many wrestling games trying to capture the spectacle of the sport on the 16-bit consoles of the time, offering a more chaotic alternative to some of the more technical grappling sims.
You control one of the WWF's popular wrestlers, moving from a side view to punch, kick, and grapple opponents. The main goal is to either win a standard match by pinfall or survive the Royal Rumble itself by being the last person in the ring after everyone else has been thrown over the top rope. Signature mechanics include the four player brawls, where the screen fills with characters, and the ability to perform each wrestler's specific finishing move when their special meter is full. The pacing is fast and frantic, with the computer opponents frequently ganging up on the player. It feels like a messy, unpredictable bar fight where anything can happen at any moment.
