Yendorian Tales Book I is one of those old-school MS-DOS RPGs that starts small—just some random errand—and then spirals into this whole mess with evil mages, lost islands, and a volcano that might unleash an ancient horror. You bounce between gnome villages and elven forests, picking up clues about Paltivar’s three lackeys, who’ve been hoarding magic ingredients for some sketchy quartz chamber. The writing’s a little rough (it’s from the ‘90s, after all), but there’s something charming about piecing together the conspiracy while grinding through turn-based fights. By the end, you’re knee-deep in lava and dark magic, and honestly? It’s a miracle your character survives.
