Yendorian Tales Book I came out in 1997 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Magnetic Scrolls. It was a late entry in the era of text-heavy adventures, when graphical interfaces were still simple and players relied on imagination as much as the screen. The game doesn't try to dazzle you with effects; it just drops you into a world and expects you to figure things out.
You control a young adventurer who starts with simple tasks but soon gets pulled into a larger quest to stop a dark mage. Movement is screen by screen, with turn based combat against creatures like gnomes and elves using swords or bows. You explore towns, talk to characters, and gather items while navigating sometimes clunky menus. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can spike without warning, especially in later areas like the volcano. It feels like solving a stubborn puzzle where every small victory matters.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
