Game Overview

I picked up 2 Pak Special Dark Blue: Planet Patrol, Wall Defender back in the day, a 1990 release for the Atari 2600. It was published by Atari, and it felt like a late effort for the system, one of those budget double packs that showed up when the console was already fading. You got two very different games on one cartridge, which was a decent deal if you were still playing the 2600.

In Planet Patrol, you pilot a small ship and shoot at alien invaders that descend in patterns; you have to clear each wave to advance. Wall Defender puts you in charge of a base with a wall that enemies try to break through; you repair damaged sections by moving a cursor and pressing the button, all while firing at approaching foes. Both games are fast and demand quick reflexes, with Planet Patrol feeling more like a straightforward shooter and Wall Defender adding that repair element for some variety. Itโ€™s a simple but engaging pair of challenges that still holds up if you enjoy classic arcade-style action.
