Game Overview

2600 Collision Demo 1 is one of those weird little Atari 2600 experiments that makes you appreciate how much work went into early games. You’ve got these blocky shapes moving around—nothing fancy—but the whole point is seeing how the system handles them bumping into each other. It’s like peeking under the hood of a really old car.

Not gonna lie, it’s more of a tech demo than something you’d play for fun, but if you’ve ever wondered how collision detection worked on hardware this limited, it’s weirdly hypnotic. The way Piero Cavina squeezed even this much out of the 2600 is kind of impressive. Mostly for retro nerds or anyone who misses the sound of a joystick clicking against a wood-paneled console.
