Game Overview

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons - Dragons of Flame (Japan) [En by DvD v1.03] — NES

Ever wanted to hack through draconians as a sword-swinging knight or backstab your way out of trouble as a kender? This weird little NES side-scroller drops you right into the Dragonlance world, no manual required. You pick between Sturm, Tanis, or Tas (who’s hilariously bad at fighting but makes up for it by stealing everything not nailed down). The pixel art’s got that chunky ’80s charm—think glowing magic staves, dragons that look like they’re made of construction paper, and enemies that respawn if you dare to backtrack.

It’s janky in the best way. Spells are awkward to cast, jumping feels like you’re wearing lead boots, and the difficulty’s pure NES-era sadism. But grab a friend for co-op, and suddenly it’s a riot—just try not to elbow each other off cliffs mid-combo. The music’s a banger too, all synth trumpets and dungeon-crawl tension. Not gonna lie, you’ll die. A lot. But there’s something weirdly satisfying about finally roasting that one draconian captain who’s been ruining your day for the past half-hour.

Definitely more fun with a buddy and a stack of spare lives.
