You control either Sturm Brightblade, a knight with a sword, or Tasslehoff Burrfoot, a kender who throws knives. Your goal is to fight through enemy forces, rescue prisoners, and ultimately confront the dragon on the cover. The game uses screen by screen exploration, with frequent enemy respawns when you backtrack, and combat relies on timing your attacks and jumps carefully. It moves at a deliberate pace and the difficulty is unforgiving, especially with limited continues.
