Game Overview

So, Akumajou Dracula Mokushiroku—yeah, that’s a mouthful—is basically Castlevania’s weird, experimental cousin on the N64. You’ve got this gothic, fog-drenched castle to explore in full 3D, which felt pretty wild back in the day. The controls take some getting used to (swinging that whip in first-person is… a choice), but once you adjust, there’s something oddly satisfying about smacking skeletons off ledges.

It’s not all mindless hacking, though—you’ll actually need to think about where you’re going. Some rooms lock you in until you solve a puzzle or find a hidden switch, and the camera angles can be as much of an enemy as the actual monsters. Still, the atmosphere nails that creepy Castlevania vibe, especially with the soundtrack groaning in the background. Just don’t expect it to play like Symphony of the Night.

Honestly, it’s janky in places, but there’s a charm to its ambition. If you’re into retro games that tried something different, this one’s worth a look.
