I picked up Aladdin 2 for the NES in 1995, a bootleg platformer that Capcom never actually made. It was one of those unlicensed cartridges floating around, loosely based on the Disney film but with completely redrawn levels and strange, off-model sprites. It felt like a weird, alternate universe version of a game I already knew, something made in a garage and sold in a plastic bag.

You control Aladdin, running and jumping through side-scrolling stages, slashing at enemies with a short sword. The main goal is just to get to the end of each stage, but the level designs are confusing, with cheap enemy placements and awkward jumps. You collect gems for points and extra lives, but the hit detection is unforgiving, and the pacing is slow and frustrating. Playing it feels like wrestling with a stubborn, half-finished idea that never quite works.
