Game Overview

Alice's Abenteuer is one of those weird little Atari 2600 gems that makes you go, "Wait, they made what for this system?" It's a European take on Alice in Wonderland from 1983—all flickery sprites and maze-like screens where you dodge the Cheshire Cat's grin and try not to get beheaded by the Queen of Hearts. The controls are stiff (like, "walking through molasses" stiff), but there's something charming about how it turns Wonderland into a series of blocky rooms where you grab random items while avoiding enemies that look like they're made of colored LEGO bricks.

Honestly, half the fun is seeing how they interpreted Carroll's nonsense world with about 16 pixels to work with. The Queen's tiny sprite somehow still feels terrifying when she chases you. It's janky, sure, but if you're into oddball retro stuff, this one's a trip—literally and figuratively. Just don't expect it to hold your hand.
