Game Overview

Vermont Crossroads released Amarillo Slim Dealers Choice in 1991 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series. It was a straightforward poker simulation from an era when many computer games focused on translating real-world card and board games into simple digital formats. You played against the computer persona of the famous gambler Amarillo Slim, who provided a recognizable, if somewhat basic, character hook for the experience.

You control your own hand of cards, making decisions to bet, raise, call, or fold across various poker games like Five Card Draw and Seven Card Stud. The main objective is to win all of Slim's money before he wins yours. Signature mechanics include the dealer's choice format, where Slim selects the game type for each round, and his taunting commentary that pops up between hands, attempting to get inside your head. The pacing is methodical, built around individual hands, and the difficulty can feel inconsistent as the AI's strategy seems to shift without much warning. It feels like sitting across from a stubborn, chatty uncle who might be a card sharp or might just be incredibly lucky.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
