Pitch, bat, and field your way through quick matches in Baseball on Game Boy, aiming to outscore your opponent over nine innings.
Baseball on the Game Boy came out in 1989, a Nintendo-published title that was part of the system's early library. It was a simple, portable version of the sport, fitting right in with the other straightforward games that defined the handheld's launch period. You didn't get a deep league or complex stats; it was just you, a friend if you had a link cable, and the basics of the game.
You control either the pitcher or the batter, switching between them each half-inning. The main goal is to outscore your opponent over nine innings. As a pitcher, you select from a few different pitch types and aim with a cursor before throwing. Batting is all about timing; you watch the ball come in and press a button to swing, hoping to make solid contact for a hit. Fielding is mostly automatic, with your players running to get the ball once it's in play. The game moves quickly, and the difficulty comes from reading pitches and placing your hits. It feels sharp and responsive, a satisfying little simulation of the sport that works perfectly in short bursts.
