Game Overview

Batman: The Caped Crusader on MS-DOS was one of those weirdly ambitious comic book games that tried something different. Instead of just being a beat-em-up, it mixed fighting with puzzle-solving, all framed like you're flipping through comic panels—which actually looked pretty cool for the time.

You pick either The Joker or Penguin’s storyline (I always went Joker first—something about his purple suit just felt right). Then it’s a mix of punching goons in the face, tossing batarangs at the right moment, and figuring out how to get past obstacles. Some of the puzzles are a little janky—good luck guessing what to interact with sometimes—but when it clicks, it feels like you’re actually outsmarting Gotham’s worst.

Honestly, the combat’s clunky by today’s standards, but there’s charm in how it commits to the comic book vibe. You’ll probably get stuck at least once, but that’s part of the fun. It’s a solid time capsule of late ‘80s Batman.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
