Batman: The Caped Crusader came out in 1988 for MS-DOS, developed by Special FX Software. It was one of those early PC games that tried to capture the feel of the comics, back when most Batman games were simple side-scrollers or beat 'em ups. This one took a different approach, splitting the action into two separate cases, which felt ambitious for the time.

You control Batman as he investigates two distinct storylines, one involving the Joker and the other the Penguin. The game plays out across static screens that you navigate one by one, talking to characters, collecting items, and solving environmental puzzles to progress. Combat is handled through a simple interface where you select punch or kick against thugs, but it's the detective work that takes center stage. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, and the puzzles can be obscure, requiring a lot of trial and error. It feels like piecing together a case from scattered clues, and when you finally crack a puzzle, there's a real sense of outsmarting the villain on their own turf.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
