Game Overview

Ocean Software released Batman: The Movie for MS-DOS in 1989, a time when movie tie-ins were often simple platformers or arcade adaptations. This one tried to capture the look and feel of Tim Burton's film, translating its gothic aesthetic into chunky, colorful VGA graphics that felt ambitious for the era. It was a game you loaded from a floppy disk, and it carried all the rough edges and ambition typical of late-80s computer gaming.

You control Batman through several distinct stages, each with different mechanics. You punch and kick your way through thugs in side-scrolling brawler segments, navigate the Batmobile through an isometric driving level while avoiding obstacles, and even pilot the Batwing in a shooter sequence. The main goal is to stop the Joker's scheme, which involves collecting and assembling parts of a weapon he plans to use. The difficulty is unforgiving, with precise jumps required in platforming sections and enemies that respawn quickly. Playing it feels like wrestling with a stubborn, sometimes unfair, but oddly compelling piece of history.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
