Transform into a robotic fighter, navigate side-scrolling levels, and battle mechanized creatures while exploring and clearing areas in Battle Beast.
Battle Beast came out in 1995 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by 7th Level. It was one of those mid-90s titles that felt experimental, a product of its time when developers were trying to blend action with puzzle elements on a platform known for both its limitations and its creativity.
You control a small animal that transforms into a robotic fighter, navigating through side-scrolling levels and battling other mechanized creatures. The main goal is to defeat all enemies in each stage, using a combination of melee attacks and projectiles. Signature mechanics include screen-by-screen exploration, where you clear one area before moving to the next, and interactive environments that sometimes require you to break objects or avoid hazards. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially during boss fights. It feels chaotic and inventive, a mix of brawling and light exploration that keeps you on your toes.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
