Game Overview

BattleBots: Design & Destroy is one of those GBA games that somehow flew under the radar, but if you're into building weird little death machines, it's an absolute blast. You start by cobbling together a robot from scratch—picking between spiked wheels, flamethrowers, or my personal favorite, the spinning saw blade that sends opponents flying. Then you toss it into these tiny, claustrophobic arenas where everything feels way more chaotic than it should.

The physics are janky in the best way possible. One second you're carefully lining up a charge, the next your bot gets flipped upside down by a lucky hammer swing and you're just a helpless metal turtle. The campaign actually makes you think about your designs too—some enemies shrug off certain weapons, so you'll find yourself back in the garage tweaking armor or swapping out weapons more than you'd expect.

It's got that early 2000s charm, all crunchy sound effects and blocky explosions. If you ever spent hours watching Robot Wars as a kid and wanted to be the one calling the shots, this is basically that fantasy in pixel form. Just don't get too attached to any one design—everything falls apart spectacularly.
