Game Overview

Ever wanted to build a train exactly how you imagined it? "Design Your Own Train" is one of those old MS-DOS games that somehow makes spreadsheets and engine specs weirdly satisfying. You start with a basic locomotive shell, then tweak everything—horsepower, weight, even the shape of the cars. At first, I just slapped parts together, but after my third derailment (oops), I actually had to think about balance and speed.

The graphics are pure 90s pixel art, but that’s part of the charm. Watching your Frankenstein train actually move—even if it’s just a blocky sprite chugging along—feels oddly rewarding. It’s the kind of game where you lose an hour just because you *have* to see if adding that extra coal car makes a difference. No tutorials, no hand-holding, just you and a very patient undo button.

If you miss the days when games were more about tinkering than cinematic cutscenes, this one’s a time capsule worth dusting off.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
