Game Overview

Bert and the Snake is one of those early MS-DOS games that feels like it was made by someone in their basement, a simple concept executed with minimal fuss. It belongs to that era of computing where games were often distributed on floppy disks or through early shareware channels, and you never quite knew what you were getting into. There's no famous developer or publisher attached to it that I recall; it was just another title in the vast, uncurated library of the time.

You control Bert, a small character represented by a block of pixels, and your goal is to avoid a snake that relentlessly pursues you through a maze. The snake grows longer every time it moves, slowly filling the narrow corridors and making escape routes disappear. You navigate screen by screen, and the only interaction is movement; there is no combat, no items to collect, just pure evasion. The pacing is methodical and tense, as a single wrong turn can quickly lead to being cornered. It feels like a desperate, claustrophobic dance where every decision matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
