Play Betrayal Online
Creep through a pixelated mansion with friends until one suddenly turns on you—then it's a frantic scramble to outwit the traitor before they pick you off. That eerie MIDI soundtrack still gives me chills.

Betrayal came out in 1990 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Microplay Software. It was one of those early PC titles that relied on atmosphere and suspense rather than flashy graphics, fitting right in with the moody adventure games of the era. You and a few friends explore a haunted mansion, solving puzzles and gathering items, all while knowing that one of you will eventually turn.
You control a character moving screen by screen through the mansion, interacting with objects and avoiding traps. The main objective shifts once the betrayal occurs; the traitor tries to kill the others, while the survivors work together to defeat them or escape. Key mechanics include limited inventory management, environmental puzzles that require cooperation (at first), and a sudden shift from exploration to tense cat-and-mouse combat. The pacing starts slow but accelerates sharply once the turn happens, and the difficulty spikes depending on which scenario triggers. It feels unpredictable and genuinely tense, especially with friends.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
