Blaster Master (U) is one of those NES games that sticks with you—partly because of how weird it is. You start as Jason chasing his mutated frog into an underground world, then suddenly you're piloting a tank called SOFIA through side-scrolling caverns, blasting mutants. The switch to top-down sections when you leave the tank still feels jarring, but in a good way.

What I remember most is how punishing it is. No saves, no passwords—just raw trial and error. You'll die a lot figuring out where to use each tank upgrade, like the hover ability or wall-climbing wheels. The grenade arc in top-down sections takes some getting used to, too.

But when it clicks, there's nothing else like Blaster Master (U). The mix of tank combat and fragile on-foot sections gives it this tense back-and-forth rhythm. Just don't expect to beat it in one sitting.
