Game Overview

So here's the deal with Blaster Master: Jason's pet frog gets zapped by radiation (as you do) and hops down a hole. Naturally, Jason stumbles upon this sweet tank named SOFIA the 3rd and decides to go after the frog. But underground's full of mutants and bosses, so he's gotta upgrade the tank with new weapons and abilities—like wall-climbing wheels or underwater thrusters—to reach deeper areas. Classic NES logic.

You'll spend most time blasting through side-scrolling levels in the tank, which feels surprisingly nimble for a hunk of metal. The homing missiles are my favorite—limited ammo, but so satisfying when you nail a tricky shot. Then suddenly you're hopping out as Jason for these tense top-down sections where one wrong move means eating a grenade. No saves or passwords though, so every death hurts.
