Game Overview

Blood came out in 1997 for MS-DOS, developed by Monolith Productions and published by GT Interactive. It was part of that wave of mid-90s shooters that built on the Doom formula, but it leaned hard into horror and dark humor. The game had a very specific, grimy aesthetic that set it apart from the sci-fi or military themes common at the time.

You control Caleb, an undead gunslinger out for revenge against the dark god Tchernobog. The goal is straightforward: fight through cultists, zombies, and other monstrosities across four distinct episodes. Signature mechanics include dual-wielding certain weapons, like two shotguns at once, and using unconventional items such as voodoo dolls to make enemies explode from a distance. The level design encourages exploration, with many secret areas and interactive elements, like flushing toilets just to see what happens. The pacing is fast and the difficulty is high, often throwing large groups of enemies at you in tight spaces. It feels chaotic, unpredictable, and deeply satisfying when you survive a close fight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
