Game Overview

Brutal Unleashed - Above The Claw is one of those forgotten 32X fighters that somehow manages to be both janky and weirdly satisfying. You pick from a roster of mutants, cyborgs, and just straight-up angry dudes, then punch each other into bloody pulps in gritty industrial arenas. The animations are stiff by today’s standards, but there’s something oddly charming about the way your character’s special moves occasionally glitch through walls.

First time I played, I went with the claw-handed guy (because, well, look at the title) and immediately got wrecked by a teleporting ninja. The controls take some getting used to—heavy hits feel like swinging a sledgehammer, and combos are more about timing than button mashing. It’s not Street Fighter, but if you’re into obscure ‘90s fighting games with a grimy aesthetic, this one’s a fun little time capsule.

Just don’t expect balance. Half the roster is borderline unusable, and the AI cheats like crazy on higher difficulties.
