Bubble Bobble on the Game Boy Color came out in 1999, developed by Taito. It was one of those late-90s handheld ports that tried to squeeze a classic arcade experience into your pocket, and it managed to hold onto the charm of the original despite the smaller screen.

You control one of two bubble-blowing dinosaurs, Bub or Bob, working through over a hundred single-screen stages. The goal is to clear each room of enemies by trapping them in bubbles and then popping them. You can bounce on your own bubbles to reach higher platforms, and collecting power-ups like lightning or water bubbles changes your attack. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty ramps up steadily as enemies get faster and levels introduce more obstacles. It feels like a cheerful, frantic puzzle where every mistake costs you a life.
