Game Overview

Burai Fighter is one of those NES shooters that feels way ahead of its time. You start off with this tiny ship that can barely take a hit, but the second you grab a power-up, everything changes—suddenly you're blasting in eight directions, weaving through bullet hell like some kind of space ninja.

The levels switch between side-scrolling and top-down views, which keeps you on your toes. I remember getting wrecked by the first boss until I realized you could actually dodge most attacks by hugging the bottom of the screen. The Burai bases get absolutely brutal later on, but that moment when you finally crack a tough stage? Pure satisfaction.

It's got that classic "just one more try" energy, even when the difficulty spikes make you want to throw your controller. The Game Boy version's fun too, though I miss the NES soundtrack.
