California Games came out on the Amiga in 1987, published by U.S. Gold. It was one of those games that really showed off what the system could do, with colorful graphics and smooth animation that made it stand out among other sports titles of the time.

You control different athletes across six California-inspired events, like skateboarding, BMX, and surfing. The goal is to score as many points as possible in each event by performing tricks, catching waves, or hitting targets. Each event has its own unique controls; for example, in skateboarding, you use the joystick to build speed and perform ollies and kickturns, while footbag requires precise timing to keep the bag in the air with your feet. The game can be challenging, especially nailing the timing for tricks or maintaining balance, but pulling off a perfect run feels incredibly satisfying. It captures that sunny, casual vibe of just hanging out and trying to get better at something fun.
