Game Overview

California Games II came out in 1990 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series from Epyx. It was a follow up to the original California Games, landing on computers at a time when sports compilations were a common way to fill an afternoon. The game tried to capture that same sunny, West Coast vibe but with a new batch of events that felt a bit more out there.

You control an athlete across six different events, including downhill snowboarding, jet skiing, and even skateboarding in a half pipe. The main objective is just to score points and beat your previous best, event by event. Signature mechanics include timing button presses for tricks during jumps and navigating obstacle filled courses that punish mistakes harshly. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with crashes happening often. It feels like a clumsy, frantic scramble where every successful run is a genuine surprise.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
