Game Overview

Card Sharks came out in 1982 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, published by ShareData. It was one of those early computer adaptations of a TV game show, a straightforward digital take on the card-guessing format that felt right at home on a beige PC with a monochrome monitor. It didn't try to be anything more than a faithful, functional port, and in that era, that was often enough.

You play as a contestant trying to build a cash prize by predicting whether the next card in a row will be higher or lower than the one currently shown. The main objective is to work your way across the entire board without a mistake, betting your winnings after each correct guess. The signature mechanics involve placing bets before each card is revealed and using earned money to freeze cards you're confident about, which can save you on a risky turn. The pacing is tense, especially as your cash stack grows and the pressure to not bust mounts with every flip. It feels like a pure test of nerve and probability, where one bad call can wipe out everything you've built.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
