Castle Master came out in 1990 from Incentive Software, one of those early MS-DOS titles that tried to push what a home computer could do with 3D. It wasn't flashy by today's standards, but back then, navigating its polygonal halls felt like stepping into something genuinely new and a little bit dangerous.
You control a disembodied hand, floating through a haunted castle room by room, throwing rocks at floating spectral enemies to survive. The goal is to explore, solve environmental puzzles based on cryptic clues, and find pieces of an artifact to break a curse. Progress is slow, deliberate; you check every corner, manage limited ammunition, and deal with enemies that can sap your energy quickly. It feels tense and isolating, like a logic puzzle wrapped in a low-poly nightmare.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
