Game Overview

Champ, The came out for the Amiga in 1989, a straightforward boxing game from developer and publisher Zeppelin Games. It was one of many sports titles trying to capture the feel of the ring on home computers, without the flash of bigger arcade ports. You step into the shoes of a boxer aiming for the championship belt, moving through a roster of opponents in a simple career mode.

You control your boxer from a side view, throwing jabs, hooks, and uppercuts with the joystick and buttons while managing stamina and blocking incoming punches. The main goal is to climb the ranks by winning matches, either against the computer or a friend in two-player mode. Fights play out screen by screen, with health bars depleting as you land clean hits; a well-timed combo can score a knockdown, but mistiming a block leaves you wide open. The pacing is deliberate, demanding patience and observation rather than frantic button mashing. It feels like a honest attempt at simulation, where every punch thrown carries weight and consequence.
