Game Overview

TNN Outdoors Fishing Champ is one of those Game Boy Color games that makes you forget how tiny the screen is—somehow, it nails the quiet tension of waiting for a bite. You’ve got lakes, saltwater spots, and a whole mess of fish that actually behave differently, so picking the right lure matters way more than you’d expect from a pixelated fishing trip.

At first, I just messed around in Free-Fishing Mode, figuring out which bait worked where (spoiler: worms crush it in freshwater). But the tournament mode gets weirdly intense—you’re racing the clock, scanning the water for ripples, and praying your line doesn’t snap. The boat controls are clunky in that classic Game Boy way, but it adds to the charm. And yeah, the "pro tips" are basically just text boxes, but they actually help when you’re staring down a stubborn bass.

It’s not fancy, but for a fishing game on a handheld from 1999, it’s shockingly deep. You’ll lose hours to it without realizing.
