Play Chex Quest Online
You play as a cereal mascot blasting slime monsters with a sci-fi spork gun, sneaking through maze-like levels hunting for hidden switches. Somehow, a Doom clone from a cereal box ends up being this oddly satisfying little shooter.
Chex Quest came out in 1996 as a promotional game from General Mills, bundled in boxes of Chex cereal. It was developed by Digital Café and ran on MS-DOS, a time when shareware and CD-ROM compilations were common. The game was a non-violent, family-friendly take on the first-person shooters popular at the time, built on a modified Doom engine.
You control the Chex warrior, tasked with saving your fellow cereal pieces from an invasion of slimy Flemoids. Your main objective is to clear each level of these green aliens, progressing screen by screen through a series of interconnected, maze-like bases. You use a zapper to teleport enemies away instead of killing them, and you often hunt for colored keycards to open sealed doors blocking your path. The pacing is brisk, the levels are compact, and the difficulty is fairly gentle, making it an accessible entry into the genre. It feels like a quick, clever, and surprisingly competent distraction that never overstays its welcome.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
