Game Overview

I picked up Civilization on the Super Nintendo back in 1991, a MicroProse game that felt like a huge departure from the platformers and action games that dominated the system. It was a deep, turn based strategy port that demanded a different kind of attention, one where you thought in terms of centuries, not seconds.

You guide a fledgling civilization from a single settler unit in 4000 BC, founding cities, researching technologies, and managing your economy and military. The main goal is to achieve dominance by conquering all other civilizations, building a spaceship to Alpha Centauri, or simply surviving until the year 2100 AD. Your turns are spent moving units across a large world map, engaging in diplomacy with rival leaders who can be friendly or hostile, and carefully balancing your city production between units, buildings, and Wonders of the World. The pacing is deliberately slow, a game of long term planning where a single miscalculation can lead to a war you aren't ready for. It feels like you are truly shaping history, one thoughtful decision at a time.
