Game Overview

Cricket 97 came out in 1997 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup, published by Electronic Arts. It was one of the earlier serious attempts at a cricket video game, arriving at a time when sports sims were still finding their feet on PC. The graphics were simple, the sound effects basic, but it captured the feel of the sport in a way that felt genuine for its era.

You control the batsman or bowler, depending on whether you're batting or fielding. When batting, you aim your shot with the arrow keys and time your swing to connect with the ball; the main goal is to score runs without getting out. Key mechanics include judging the ball's line and length, choosing between defensive blocks and aggressive shots, and managing your stamina during longer innings. The game can be unforgiving if you misjudge a delivery, but patient play is rewarded. It feels like a thoughtful, sometimes tense simulation of cricket's strategic depth.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
